assert：通例(客観的証拠がないのに)個人的な確信から大胆に言明する

If someone asserts a fact or belief, they state it firmly.

  • The defendants, who continue to assert their innocence, are expected to appeal. (被告人は無実を主張し続けており、上告する予定である)

★ポイント★
「証拠なしで（一方的に）自信を持って述べる」というニュアンスがある。自らの主張に同意してもらうために、時に激しさを伴う。assert that modern music is just noise (近代音楽はただのノイズだと言い切る)
